SSD RULES (how to increase the SSD life duration)
* Disable Superfetch (For Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7):
- On your "Start" search menu, type "services.msc". Scroll down and find the "Superfetch" line, and double click it to open up its properties.
- Change the "Startup Type" to "disabled".
If you're running Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, navigate to "My Computer".
- Right click on your SSD and choose properties from the drop-down menu.
- Navigate to the "Tools" tab and click "Defragment Now" in the "Defragmentation" menu.
* Windows XP: do not defrag your SSD ! it is a waste of time !!!
* Windows XP (and Vista ?): How to perfectly align SSD for FREE !!!
- Download GPARTED LiveCD,
- Shrink and move your partition a few MB's to the right,
- Grow and move it as far as possible to the left (set align to none),
=} The partition will then start on the sector 2048 or at an offset of 1024k, which is perfect alignment :-)
WARNING: do not often use this method !!! it uses 2 read/2 write cycles and classical SSD can only accept between 5000 to 10000 read/write cycles ;)
INTEL SSD S.M.A.R.T purpose E8 (232) "available disk space" and E9 "media wearout indicator" (for these 2 numbers 100 is the best, 10 is the threshold !!!),
SANDFORCE SSD chipset (used in KINGSTON) S.M.A.R.T purpose E7 (231) (100 is the best, 10 is the threshold !!!), F1 and F2 can be useful too.
I use DEFRAGGLER portable version or crystaldiskinfo to detect these parameters.
The batch to create a WinPE3.0 LiveCDWARNING ! This .bat must ONLY be launched INSIDE the Windows AIK Console menu !!!
WARNING: "Process Explorer" method on this link is bad, see now the real method:
1) Download Process Monitor and run it.
2) Choose "filter" and "Filter" again.
3) Click 'Reset'
4) Choose "Operation", "contains", "WriteFile" then "Include"
4b optional) Choose "Operation", "contains", "ReadFile" then "Include" and click on "Add"
4c optional) Choose "Path", "begins with", "c:" (type this value on the keyboard!) then "Include" and click on "Add"
4d optional) Choose "Path", "begins with", "d:" (type this value on the keyboard!) then "Include" and click on "Add"
5) Click 'Apply' and then click 'OK'.
WARNING 2 ! A high regular read (i.e read a file every second) does not decrease SSD life coz it is on the HD cache ;) Same thing for a high regular write..
Windows 7: To check if TRIM is enabled, type as a MS-DOS command "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" and check if DisableDeleteNotify is equal to 0.

THE WINPE 3.0 CAVERN:
